One of the challenges with monitoring networks is how to cope with failure or outage situations, such as with a link or monitoring tool. Outage sensitive monitoring applications, e.g. Intrusion Protection Systems (IPS), need to have some form of protection in terms of the network and the monitoring. This means being able to provide protection against power outages, link outages, monitoring tool outages, and even traffic capture system outages. Managed Redundancy and High Availability are the main objectives.

VSS’ Policy-based Triggering is a break-through technology for traffic capture networks, which allows users to define what conditions or events are of concern and what actions to take when they occur, including switching over to back-up tools, re-distributing load, and cutting over a standby monitoring network.

Policy-based Triggering is one of the key differentiating features of the Protector series of products.
