Introduction

Distributed Systems Defined
Distributed Systems are composed of remotely manageable traffic capture devices that deploy throughout a distributed network to centralize monitoring in a single location.
Why centralize? This is the direction that network monitoring must go in to solve the problems of escalating costs, limited personnel and access ports, and higher service levels.
Features of Distributed Systems include high port-density aggregation, input/output configurability, inline and span options, and secure remote management. Port filters can even be implemented in some devices to selectively refine the traffic that is directed to monitoring equipment.
Benefits of Distributed Systems include increased network visibility, reduced response time to security incidents, and up to 80% cost savings on overall network monitoring deployments.
