Traditional TAPs are typically low port-density passive hardware devices that provide complete traffic visibility for inline or SPAN networks. They offer basic functionality such as static (bulk) aggregation and replication but do not feature intelligent traffic processing capabilities such as Hardware-Based Filtering, which are available in Distributed TAPs.

Traditional TAPs are useful for small deployments or as a component of a larger traffic capture deployment.

VSS distinguishes itself in this product category by offering its patented vAssure for failsafe Gigabit copper tapping. vAssure ensures traffic is not disrupted on a Gigabit copper link in the event of power failure to the TAP. This capability is critical for outage-sensitive networks.
