Government Information Security Reform
Act (GISRA)
In effect from November 2000 to November 2002 - has since been replaced by FISMA

Description

GISRA requires agencies to implement efforts to secure electronic information and systems; to thoroughly assess their security management practices; and to report on their security programs, processes, technology and personnel to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).
 
FISMA replaced GISRA with stronger permanent provisions, including requirements for minimum mandatory information security standards. .


Audit Body

Beginning January 1, 2004 each year every participant shall file with FERC a self certification signed by an officer of the company indicating compliance with these standards and identifying any areas of non-compliance.

Industry Affected

FISMA replaced GISRA which had been in effect until November 2002.
