Distributed Mirror (span) Port Solution
for monitoring existing switch infrastructure in core networks |
| Summary |
Given the ubiquitous nature of managed switches, end users often rely on a Switch's Span or Mirror port utility to accomplish certain basic types of monitoring, despite the inherent quality disadvantages. Using multiple Span Ports throughout the network for troubleshooting requires a user to either visit each location with an analyzer or simply have an analyzer placed in each location. The resulting issues are excessive response times and / or the cost of multiple analyzer licenses and hardware. Either an Analyzer is permanently available at each instance of Span Port or the user must travel to each location every time an incident occurs thereby usurping valuable time while connectivity suffers.
VSS provides a solution to this distributed problem that dramatically cuts deployment costs and provides immediate response time to incidents ensuring optimal quality in the proactive and reactive monitoring process.
