Came out in 2018 and still has its moxie, the Acer Predator Helios 300 is certainly a beast when it comes to mid-range gaming laptops. While it doesn’t have the wow factor of the other gamestations at the top, the Predator Helios 300 still packs quite a punch.

The Acer Predator Helios 300 model PH315-52-78VL comes with a hexa-core Intel Core i7-9750H and a GeForce GTX 1060Ti graphics card. These two components are the main ones allowing the Helios 300 to soar through most day-to-day activities.

As with gaming, the Helios 300 can deal easily with most Triple-A titles, and so it goes without saying that this laptop can also handle Sims 4. From our testings, you can comfortably run the game on High settings with 60 or more Frame Rate and expect little hiccups.

The Helios 300 also boasts a 16GB RAM and a 256GB SSD, both of which are more than enough to handle the big updates EA and Maxis put out.

In general, the Helios 300 is a good-looking laptop, not too bulky, not too frail-looking, but just right.

All things considered, the Predator Helios 300 is still stuck at mid-range due to its Achilles’s heel: thermal control.

CoolBoost can be enabled from the PredatorSense app to alleviate this, but the laptop's overheating problem will still be relatively noticeable.

And while it certainly would do wonders if you could compliment this laptop with an additional HDD to perfect things even more, you can still play Sims 4 comfortably without one. From what we’ve tested, the Acer Aspire 5 can run the game on Ultra settings, though we do recommend running it on High only, so as to ensure the smoothest of gameplays.

With a 15,6-inch-HD-screen integrated with Colour Intelligence technology, Acer aimed to adjust screen colour saturation and gamma correction in real-time to provide you with the most vibrant images possible.

And as a cherry on top, the Acer Aspire 5 comes equipped with a USB Type C port, 2 USB 2.0 ports, an Ethernet port, as well as an HDMI port, so you don’t have to struggle looking for an adapter, just to connect the laptop.

All things considered, the Acer Aspire 5 is a jack of all trades when it comes to gaming and everyday activities, but it certainly has its flaws. Most notably, there have been reports of the touchpad malfunctioning, especially when you connect or disconnect your computer mouse to the laptop.

Acer has also equipped its product with an Intel Core i7-8750H 2.2GHz, which allows the Aspire 7 to smoothly run everyday operations and a large number of big title games. In Sims 4, you can run the game on Ultra settings and still play with a constant 60 to 80 FPS.

The screen has a full-HD display that shows you the truest colours possible with great contrast and vibrancy, and the backlit keyboard has key travel distant that is just right so you don’t have to strain yourself typing and playing for a long time.

On the other hand, the Acer Aspire 7 is certainly not flawless. Just like the Predator Helios 300, thermal throttling is still worth mentioning, usually reaching above 50 degrees Celsius when playing for a long time so it still needs to improve too.

To alleviate this you can purchase a cooling pad, or place a fan right where the cooling vents are to dissipate the heat. The palm-rest is relatively small as well, so you should get a gaming mattress if you want to avoid wrist pains. And while the audio output of the Aspire 7 isn’t bad, it certainly needs some improvements.

The Acer Aspire 7 is certainly an amazing and versatile laptop for its price range. If you are looking for a laptop that is both portable and powerful for gaming, the Acer Aspire 7 is for you.
