Ultrawide Monitors for MacBook Pro Buying Guide
The buying guide is as follows. Read through it before buying your MacBook Pro monitor.
Size
I prefer larger monitors for the MacBook Pro. They have ample screen space that lets me view more content without compromising the image quality. Besides, I can multitask efficiently on a larger screen.
I can't recommend a specific size because they vary depending on the application. But before you decide on the size of the ultrawide monitor to buy, consider your working space and budget. If space isn't limited, you can opt for your largest monitor, provided it's within your monitor budget. Also, remember that the larger the screen, the higher the screen resolution you need. The display quality is high on a large screen if the resolution is also high.
Flat/Curved Screen Monitor
This consideration is quite debatable. Flat-screen monitors are more popular than their curved counterparts. However, curved monitors are gaining popularity and will soon dominate the market.
A flat-screen monitor gets the job done perfectly - no complaints. However, I usually get the urge to try the curved monitor for their immersive experience. A curved monitor reduces the field of view and reduces eye strain, bringing about a more immersive experience.
Response time
A low response time is the best for almost any monitor, irrespective of the primary application. Most importantly, modern monitors for high-end games require the lowest response time possible to play in high settings.
For casual Mac users, I recommend a response time lower than 10ms. However, for the best experience, I need a response time of at least 5ms. However, I'll need a 1ms response time for high-end games and other intensive programs.

Refresh rate
You don't need to worry about refresh rate if you're an average Macbook Pro user. If you fall under this bracket, a 60 Hertz refresh rate is enough for your monitor. Luckily, most monitors have refresh rates ranging from 60 Hertz upwards, so you won't need to worry. With this refresh rate, I can use such monitor for streaming, watching videos efficiently, or i can join online video conferences.
But there is a concern if you own one of the new MacBook Pros. These laptops have Liquid Retina XDR displays, which have variable refresh rates. With a refresh rate of up to 120 Hertz, getting a monitor with a refresh rate lower than 120 Hertz would be a downgrade. Therefore, the best ultrawide monitor for this Macbook Pro should have a 120 Hz, 144Hz refresh rate, or more.
However, if you plan to game at a higher refresh rate than 120 Hertz, you'll need a monitor with a refresh rate that extends beyond this level. Fortunately, gaming monitors have refresh rates as high as 360 Hertz.
USB-C Port
As I mentioned, most Macbook Pros typically have USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 ports. Therefore, the best monitor for the MacBook pro should have a USB-C port. This port will allow me to connect the monitor to my laptop and do my things on the go.
In addition to connecting and transferring data, the USB Type C port on the ultrawide monitor should permit power delivery. This way, I can charge my MacBook and other accessories using the USB-C cable.
Resolution
I need at least a 1440p monitor. This resolution will ensure my display has sharper and more accurate images and text. Lower screen resolution will result in a low-quality display, affecting my experience.
I emphasize sharp displays because they reduce eye strain, allowing me to work for long sessions without affecting my eyes. I also need sharp and accurate displays when undertaking creative and text-based assignments like programming.
I'm sure no one in their right mind would spend a fortune on a new M1 MacBook Pro laptop with a Liquid Retina XDA display and pair it with a substandard monitor.

Color Gamut
The best ultrawide monitors for MacBook pro should have a wide color gamut, such as Display P3 or DCI-P3. A wide color gamut ensures high color accuracy to deliver a vibrant display.
Professional graphic designers should worry more about color gamut. Critical design tasks need a monitor with a wide color gamut with more saturated colors. Lucky for you, MacBooks use Display P3 color gamut with a wide color gamut. This color gamut guarantees consistent color performance between your laptop and the external display.
Consider external monitors with at least 99% sRGB color coverage for the best color performance.
Ergonomics
You're going to spend most of your time on your monitor, regardless of whether you're working from home or the office or you're entertaining yourself. Therefore, before buying that monitor, ensure it has good ergonomics. The stand should allow me to adjust the height, swivel, or tilt the monitor to achieve a more comfortable posture.
Unfortunately, I can rotate an ultrawide monitor. However, I can swivel and tilt it into a more relaxed position for my well-being. Ensure you'll enhance your productivity if you consider an ergonomic ultrawide monitor.
Screen Split Software and KVM Switch
Most users who opt for ultrawide monitors operate with multiple programs simultaneously. MacOS has a split view feature that allows me to display two apps side by side on my monitor's screens. Split software, on the other hand, lets me display more than two apps with different layouts.
A KVM switch comes in handy when working with two computers. It allows me to control my Macbook Pro and another PC connected to the external PC monitor using one keyboard and mouse. This feature makes multitasking more efficient.
Therefore, the best ultrawide monitors for MacBook pro should have a built-in KVM switch and splitting software.

FAQs
Can I Use an Ultrawide Monitor With a MacBook Pro?
Yes, you can use an ultrawide monitor with a MacBook Pro. MacBook Pros usually have USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 ports. Therefore, I can connect an ultrawide monitor with these ports to my MacBook Pro.
However, if the connectivity ports are incompatible, I can use a suitable adapter to connect my MacBook pro to an external display.
What's The Difference Between Curved VS. Flat Monitors?
The difference between curved vs. flat monitors is their experience. A curved monitor has a more immersive experience thanks to their reduced field of view. Also, curved monitors have less eye strain.
How Much Monitor Curvature Do I Need To Pick?
The monitor curvature I need varies depending on my preference. However, the human eye curvature ranges between 1000R. Therefore, the best monitor curvature should be 1000R. But with the latest curvature currently being 1500R, it is wise to say that it is the best monitor curvature. This curvature has a more immersive experience than the regular 1800R curvature.
