Spectrum Antivirus Real-Time Protection

I found Spectrum Antivirus and its real-time protection to be incredibly helpful. By using cloud-based coverage, Spectrum virus protection is always working to keep your computer free of potential threats.

The Spectrum free antivirus software is your shield against the ever-evolving malware that seeks to steal your sensitive information. If you are a Spectrum Internet customer, there is no cost for this service.

For me, this is one of Spectrum Internet Security Suite’s most beneficial features. I never have to worry about my client’s information getting hijacked, let alone my own. As someone who works from home, Spectrum anti virus is worth its weight in gold.

Automatic Virus Removal Process

Furthermore, with Spectrum internet security, I can rest easy knowing that any viruses will be immediately eliminated. If something slips through the cracks while I’m away from my computer, I will be contacted with the action taken by the virus removal.

That’s right, Spectrum internet virus protection will send me a text message to inform me that a virus was found, removed, and that protection is resuming.

Spectrum Security Firewall

With the Security Suite, Spectrum activates a firewall that keeps all of my sensitive information safely secured. Our private data is what cyber-thieves live to steal. With this information, they can wipe out bank accounts, buy things online, and steal our identity.

But thanks to Spectrum internet protection, you no longer have to fear that someone is going to swipe your personal data. The firewall works to prevent unauthorized access to your computer, effectively keeping would-be criminals locked out.

    • Spectrum discontinued McAfee downloads last year. They are instead using some unknown company called “F-secure” ( f-secure.com ), and you can install it from Spectrum’s website after you sign in.

      • F-Secure is actually a very good computer security company that has been around for a long time. They are based in Finland. Their security suite is not the very best rated, but it is very good, especially for home users.

Ten years or so ago, there was a computer virus introduced to the industrial control equipment running an Iranian uranium enrichment facility. It was called Stuxnet. The virus destroyed the most important machines in the plant, the centrifuges. Just about every computer security firm was trying to figure out what happened. F-secure was the first to figure out how it was done and make the findings public. What they did made security for industrial systems much better.

F-Secure also offers a very good VPN service, not included in the Spectrum Security Suite, called Freedome. With it you can choose the country and city it looks like all your internet traffic is coming from.

I’m not an ad man or anything for F-Secure. I’ve just used their products for years. When I found out Spectrum had moved to them, I ended my personal subscription and downloaded this package from Spectrum. I still keep my Freedome subscription.

  2. F-Secure is not “unknown”. It has seen better days though. It was once one of the premiere security suites for serious IT types. back in the 1990s and early 2000s. Often considered #2 or #3 behind Norton.

Alas they never really understood marketing and appealing as a glamorous status symbol to the masses. Lack of sales eventually lead to not keeping enough quality people etc. So first they fell behind in integrated featurism then later fell in detection technology and simply keeping databases up with new malware.

So Charter-Spectrum was able to buy up a controlling share. I have no idea it enough cash was injected to keep actual AV detection up to good speed. Obviously Charter-Spectrum has some very limited ideas about necessary features. In fact I am sure they want to discourage certain things like VPNs and ad-blocking (don’t want to cut commercial kick backs from high traffic sites).

    • Thank You for your detailed answer, as it finally helped me really understand what I was (really) questioning, which an employee really wouldn’t be able to state, I’m sure.

I feel if Charter/Spectrum was able to be more transparent, in a specific way about the need for McAfee, some might appreciate it and some may not. So the “limited ideas about necessary features” was pretty accurate for my own info., for anyone who would rather not have an issue, if possible. By going with the lesser free “protection”, the wait-and-see, the Security Suite might be enough to protect, ‘but’…. seems to be implied, especially by recommending the additional protection. Which is also free, though, so that’s fair.

For me, recommending automatically additional security monitoring, that kinda lets you see, unless the device isn’t used for anything private, and it isn’t synced with other devices, which is no one I know, then someone probably could use Spectrum’s free protection alone.
I’m very busy with things to do, and I don’t want to have even 1 additional problem that I need to fix, so of course I’m going to use both.

  3. Please explain why you have this opinion. I need internet protection and was referred by an IT tech to install this program. P.S. Not from spectrum!!! Please help.

    • Hi Keith, Spectrum is just okay as far as protection. We suggest using McAfee because it has much better protection. Although it’s not free, the cost of it is well worth the protection and peace of mind, especially with more and more hacks happening. You can check out McAfee pricing here.

    • All antiviruses will slow your computer while running a scan. Some slow down when they are downloaded, but overall McAfee allows a computer to run fast while offering really great security – both in virus detection and preventative (warnings and identifying risky files BEFORE they become problems).

  4. I currently have MAfee installed on my Lenovo laptop. We just installed a new hard drive on our office computer and then installed Spectrum Security Suite. We use Pectrum for our phones, internet and cable so there is “no charge” for this service. I’ve read that Spectrum Security Suite is generally “okay” for home protection needs. We don’t use either one of these computers for anything other than basic web browsing and purchasing but we do use them for all of our credit union bank accounts, Fidelity accounts, healthcare accounts etc. just as most folks do. My question would be: can I install Spectrum Security Suite on my laptop that already has McAfee installed? is there any security “gain” by doing so?? should I consider dropping McAfee which of course charges for their services and just go with Spectrum? Thank You! for any thoughts you may have re this subject.
